Following Jesus to Bethlehem

Angels Singing and a Prophet’s Warning

Just 8 days after you are born, your mother hears these sobering words from Simeon in the temple:

and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted  (and you yourself a sword will pierce)* so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”
Luke 2: 34-35

Day  29:

Why is this verse included in the scriptures?
Your mother is meant to suffer...
Not for our salvation, of course,
but that the thoughts of many might be revealed.

And was this prophecy meant only for those living at that time
or is it somehow linked with the other prophetic words
that all generations will call her blessed? Luke 1:48

Could this mean her human suffering was so profound
you sanctified it to bear fruit for all generations?
Does it mean she is able to help us know our own hearts
so that we can give them more completely to you?

Jesus, if your mother is meant to help me follow you - help me let her.
